What's a DATA LOGGER?
A Data Logger is an instrument used to log or record one or numerous variables over a period of time.
The values are normally stored on an EEPROM in the Datat Logger or sent to a PC. They are mostly stand alone devices with it's own battery pack. The information stored in he Logger can be viewed in a graphical or table form,on a PC ,using appropriate software.
How does a Data Logger work?
- The data logger is connected to a personal computer to program it
- The logger is then disconnected
- The Data logger is installed at the required location
- It records all the parameters required for a particular time period
- The Data Logger is then reconnected to the PC
- Using appropriate software, the data is displayed using tables or graphs
Places where Data loggers are used:
- Formula Racing
- Environmental monitoring
- Automotive testing
- Process control
- Gathering Weather data
- Hospitals
- Building Monitoring
Choosing a Data Logger?
- accuracy
- number of sensord or inputs needed
- kind of inputs [analog/digital]
- power to the logger[on board or external]
- communication to the logger
- control of external devices
